2009 Gaia Herbs Open House Pt. 1 – Introduction

*Posted with permission* This past June on a very hot day I attended the Gaia Herbs Open House. This is the introductory talk by it’s owner, Rick Scalzo. Afterwards there was a tour of the fields where the herbs are grown. I’ll show that in future videos very soon. He stops at each planting and gives a talk about that herbs medicinal values and it’s production. I’ll be doing a video for each herb. I anticipate around 7-10 videos. Medicinal herbs probably aren’t everyone’s cup of tea:) but just bear with me and things around here will eventually get back to the usual:)

Lots of tractor sounds in this series, LOL. I think on a couple of occasions I have to lower the volume a little on them because it’s so loud I didn’t want people to have to turn their volume down and then back up.

Wow a great share, i can tell from 1, this is gonna be great information! I may take a few days to get thru em! Tractor sounds, are soothing!

If you’re interested in medicinal herbs it should prove quite fascinating. Otherwise it’ll probably be a snoozfest, LOL.

This looks like the start of something interesting…

This is a really nice location. Property is very expensive but still maybe not as high as where they were. They have 250 acres which is a LOT for these parts.

YES! They were in Harvard, MA (big BUCKS!) a little north of here. They say on your vid that they relocated because they needed a more climate friendly environment, but property tax probably played a roll in their decision to move. Harvard is a beautiful town. Where they are located now appears beautiful as well.

Yep, small world:) Had you ever heard of them before?

D’oh!!! I shouldda figured that one out, LOL.

I had mental images of a cave man wondering what made that mysterious voice. ROFL
(Not being mean, it just struck me funny)

Masterful camerawork!!! Hey they used to be in Massachusetts!

The triple play with there’s, they’re, and there in one sentence. lol

More of these to come soon:) Actually I’ve got one upped already. By triple play are you talking about those 3 comments I made in a row on this video talking about temporarily being semi-locked out of my account?

I can be a wild man with the zoom sometimes. I try to keep it *somewhat* in check so my viewers don’t get seasick, LOL. It *was* a nice clear shot of that speaker though wasn’t it:)))

In video #4 of this series I’ll be showing you what type of footwear not to wear. Or who knows the shoe might strike your fancy:) Lots of straw hats were on display here. It was a VERY hot day.

Interesting, and nice triple play down there. lol

BRAVO is what your English teacher would say cause you did it correctly:-)

Nice close up on the speaker LOL
I am looking forward to hearing about the herbs. :)

That looks interesting – especially helpful in showing me what type of hat not to buy!

Yeah, they’re a pretty low impact operation. Mainly they just blend into the background. There’s really not all that many jobs in this area so it’s good they’re there. Plus so long as they’re there there’s not going to be a huge housing development in that area so it’s all good:)
Hmmm, I wonder what my High School English teacher would say about me using 3 variations of “their” in a row, LOL.

Sounds a little cultish, are they good neighbors?

It really is a beautiful place. Prior to Gaia Herbs buying it, it was a cattle farm for maybe 50 years or so. It was very rich land to begin with and I guess 50 years of growing cattle and hay, and of course the resultant many tons of cattle manure have made it just that much richer.

Hehehehe, he *really* was checking that thing out for sure. I have no idea what the deal was with it. He was a Gaia employee and went along on the tour. I don’t remember him having any wardrobe malfunctions so I guess his attention to detail paid off, LOL.

Yep, most of the attendees were seniors it seemed. I even heard one guy there comment about it. Actually my camera died partway through the tour and I had to go retrieve another battery and filmed the last part of a second tour to finish things up. So since I filmed parts of two different tours you’ll probably notice a fresh set of attendees at some point. The second set might be a little younger but I really can say for cetain.

Thanks Debbie:) The second one is upping right now. It’s a large file so it’ll take a while.

They (Gaia Herbs) impressed me quite a bit with their organic-ness. They seemed to be *really* picky as far as their growing procedures as well as their processing of the herbs. I filmed quite a bit of the growing aspect of things but was only allowed to film an introductory speech inside the processing plant. I may or may not show that at the very end. I’ll have to take another look at it and see how interesting it looks in retrospect.
