Cooking With Medicinal Herbs

Something Im into lately is including more medicinal herbs into my diet. The Indian culture seems to have really cracked the code on this. Cinnamon and ginger are my favorites right now and I add them to almost everything I eat.

i really love turmeric!
such a great anti infammitory agent
Loved this video! A few weeks ago I was going crazy with turmeric powder & fresh ginger, putting them in everything. After it warmed up a bit (I’m in Arizona), I went off them. Thanks for mentioning that spices are seasonal and our needs change– I’m going to look into others I can cook with now. :)
thanks
the warming and grounding goods help so much.
as a raw foodie a few years ago, i was always very cold in the winter. this year if different, i havnt had an issue with being cold and it’s been very pleasant to be in the crispt cold air. I def contribute this to the spices I use in rice and quinoa, and the elixars. great vid!
good point :)
I didnt realize that there were cooling and warming spices/herbs. Where can I get a list of them classified as warming or cooling? I use parsley and cilantro alot and it sounded like those were cooling. I definately need to add more warming spices to my diet!!
@SecretsOfLongevity you would love “Fiesta Mole,” have you tried it?
thai, korean and vietnamese cuisine come to mind as well… especially thai… i mean think about a typical thai dish… coconut/basil/garlic/hot peppers/lemongrass… very synergistic , healing and balanced… compare to hot dogs and ketchup and doritos… foods laced with deceit, tricking and manipulating your taste buds and subsequently your mind and overall health
With many spices, they are fine to consume when they are made into a fine powder raw. In fact, there are many nutrients in a lot of these spices that are destroyed once they are exposed to much heat. I usually make use of them by putting them in my tea. Usually I’ll mix cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, and cayenne pepper into my red/green tea concoction and it really comes out great. Sometimes I’ll even throw in some organic mint in there.
I can’t remember if you mentioned it or not… but cumin is a fantastic spice. I’m using it it a lot, along with many of the others you mentioned!
