Help regarding the planting, maintaining and harvesting of medicinal roots/herbs/plants?

Hi I have been studying alternative [natural] medicine for a while now and am interested specifically in starting a dandelion garden so I can harvest the leaves for an addition to a salad, but more importantly to harvest the roots for Dandelion Tea.

My main concern is after you have harvested the roots, do you just plop the dandelion back into its planter? Or does the harvesting of the roots kill the dandelion? Do I need to harvest and save seeds? If so where are they?

Any and all help is welcome! Thanks so much!

Leave part of the root behind and chances are good the dandelion will grow back.

If you dig the plant up to use the root, then there is no benefit to putting it back into the soil. Often dandelions will regrow when any part of the root is left in the soil – and it is usually very hard to get the entire tap root out.
The dandelion seeds are in the fuzzy head that develops after the flower blooms.
